Afternoon Snack: It's Called Rawtella, and Let's Just Say, It's Pure Heaven
It's called Rawtella, and contains only three organic ingredients: cocoa nibs (they're high in antioxidants), hazelnuts and coconut sugar. Is it good? Oh yeah. I recently whipped up a batch of whole-wheat crepes and smeared a little inside. Heaven.

Rawtella - An All-Raw, All-Creamy Chocolate-Hazelnut Spread!
As soon as I got the jar, I couldn't resist and had to taste it. The spread is smooth, very smooth, and you can easily spoon some out of the jar. It also melts readily in the mouth, and, bonus for a sugar-loather like me, it's not too sweet. In fact, it's just right! And since it's so rich and satisfying (and perhaps because the nuts are sprouted too), it satisfies a craving for something chocolat-y without weighing me down.

YUMMY!!!!! Rawtella is delicious! To be honest I have only used it to satisfy my chocolate cravings.. I sneak a little spoonful and savor the chocolatey goodness... ut you could put the jar in the dehydrator to soften and then spread it on a cracker or use it as an raw ice cream topping. There is only 3 amazing ingredients in Rawtella but what a powerful combo- soooo good!!!

Well last week I was on the www.therawfoodworld.com ordering more royal jelly and came across this stuff called Rawtella, which is basically the same stuff but all raw organic ingredients! I ordered it! OMG it came today, it is sooooooooooooooooooooooo good! WOW!

How do we love you, Nutella? Let us count the ways. We love you slathered on toast, drizzled on fruit and as a decadent topping on waffles. We love you enough to overlook your artificial flavor and refined sugar. But our bodies (sigh) don't.

I frequently get asked to review products on my blog and I'm happy to do so. It gives me the opportunity to share my thoughts on new products - good or bad.
Well, the makers of Rawtella contacted me about reviewing their product, Rawtella. It arrived Wednesday and I thought, "Oh ok, I'll have some tonight and add it to my food journal I'm planning on posting later in the week." (By the way, did you see that on the top of my blog I now have a tab for "food journal" - I get asked many times for samples of what I eat so now you have one place to access many of my food journals. I haven't updated it to include everything, but I'm working on it.)
Anyway. I sampled the Rawtella and OMG - yum! I knew I had to do more than talk about it in my food journal. This delicious treat deserved its own post. Rawtella is a jar of a chocolate spread made from 3 ingredients: Organic raw, soaked, and dehydrated hazelnuts, organic raw cacao nibs, and raw coconut sugar. It's mostly organic and will be all organic soon. They're waiting for the coconut sugar to go through the final steps of becoming certified organic.

As a raw food fanatic and lover of cacao, I find sweet, chocolatey, nutty Rawtella to be a true gift. The flavor is amazing, and the consistency is as smooth as peanut butter. It has replaced chocolate coconut butter on my shelf. The texture of Rawtella is a rare find in the raw food world. Not often does one find a raw dessert product on the shelf that isn’t dried, and Rawtella quenches ones “thirst” for something moist and creamy. It can even be used to transform those dehydrated raw treats into smooth, chocolatey, melt-in-your-mouth desserts. For instance, I love those raw coconut macaroons, but I find them to be a bit dry when eaten by themselves. With a dollop of Rawtella, they are perfect.
Rawtella was a huge hit at my chocolate-themed birthday party. My guests were a mixed crowd of raw foodies, vegans, vegetarians, and omnivores; and they all went absolutely gaga over Rawtella. We all enjoyed Rawtella as dip for fresh organic strawberries and banana slices, as a base for hot chocolate, drizzled over popcorn, and as the icing on the raw birthday cake!

Our Raw Ingredients

- Coconut Sugar
Peeled raw certified organic Criollo cacao bean nibs (pieces of peeled low fermented cacao beans). Cacao contains a wide array of unique properties and minerals, including high levels of sulfur and magnesium. It may increase your focus and alertness and contains nutrients to keep you happy. Chocolate and cacao are often associated with love. All this is due to phenylethylamine contained in the cacao.
Hazelnuts are a good source of energy with their 60.5% fat content. They are rich source of vitamin E which helps prevent oxidation of the polyunsaturated fats. Hazelnuts are high in oleic acid, a mono-unsaturated fatty acid, which helps to lower cholesterol. The cardio-protective arginine, an amino acid from hazelnuts helps in the relaxation of blood vessels.
When the coconut tree is taped, it produces a naturally sweet, nutrient-rich "sap" that exudes from the coconut blossoms. This sap is very low glycemic and contains 17 amino acids, minerals, vitamin C, broad-spectrum B vitamins, and has a nearly neutral pH. To create coconut sugar it is then dehydrated at low temperatures.
